Question: I was at one of the fall boat shows and snapped the accompanying photo. It shows what appears to be a range hood device mounted over the galley stove on one of the new sailboats.

The Dometic CK 2000 uses replaceable charcoal filters and requires no venting.

Once back out on deck I noticed something that confused me a bit. There was no exhaust outlet to be seen anywhere for this range hood. The unit at my house has an outlet that exhausts outside. How does this Dometic unit work?

Answer: The unit you are looking at is a fairly new product from Dometic. The magic with this unit is just as you say; it can be mounted in an overhead and does not need an exhaust outlet to be cut through the deck. This greatly simplifies the installation and makes it an easy upgrade for older boats too. It uses replaceable charcoal filters and also has a cleanable grease trap. It works simply by circulating the air in proximity to it through the grease trap and charcoal filter.

Do a web search for a Dometic model CK 2000 cooker hood to find out more about this very practical unit. If you do a lot of onboard cooking, you want this filter set up!
